Vice-President of the International Alliance of BRICS Strategic Projects for Youth Policy, Chairman of the International Public Organization "New Horizons" Marina Brilka took part in the 66th conference of the UN Department of Public Information.
The Conference "Global Citizenship Education: Sharing the Sustainable Development Goals" was held in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea from May 30 to June 1, 2016. 2016 is the first year dedicated to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by UN Member States in 2015.
The objective of this conference was to use the strategies, experience and resources of all sections of civil society to implement educational initiatives within the framework of the SDG program. The participants of the conference developed and adopted a program of action in the field of education, aimed at mobilizing civil society: local and international NGOs, civil society activists, as well as academia and educators. This program will be distributed among the UN member states.
Marina Brilka noted that the education and development of young people is the foundation for achieving all the Sustainable Development Goals: "The question of the prospects for integrating the adopted UN action program into the Russian education development system to realize the scientific and innovative potential of our country remains relevant. To achieve the SDGs in the field of education, it is necessary to form an active civil society, as well as conditions for unlocking the potential and talents of each individual. The key to success here is the emphasis on "breakthrough ideas" in education. "Breakthrough ideas" acquire special significance in developing countries, the "locomotive" of which is the BRICS countries. That is why, of course, giving priority to Russia, I consider it important to interact and coordinate work in the international arena as a whole in order to create a "united front" for youth development."
