Vice-President of the International Alliance of BRICS Strategic Projects on Youth Policy, Chairman of the IPO «New Horizons» recently participated in the 66th Conference of the UN Department of Public Information.
The Conference «Education in the spirit of global citizenship: a joint achievement of the objectives for sustainable development» took place in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, in 30 May — 1 June 2016. 2016 is the first year dedicated to the achievement of Sustainable development goals (SDG) adopted by the UN Member States in 2015.
The objective of this Conference was the promotion of using the strategies, skills and resources of all sectors of civil society in order to implement educational initiatives of the SDG program. The participants developed and adopted a program in the sphere of education aimed at mobilizing civil society including local and international NGOs, civil society activists, as well as academics and education officials. This program will be circulated among the UN member states-.
Marina Brilka noted that the education and development of young people is the foundation for achieving all the goals of sustainable development: «The prospects of integration of the UN program into the development of Russian education system in order to realize scientific and innovative potential of our country still remain actual. In order to achieve the SDG in education it is highly important to establish an active civil society, as well as the conditions to unlock the potential and talents of each and every individual. The key to success here is the focus on «breakthrough ideas» in the field of education. «Breakthrough ideas» become particularly significant in developing countries led by BRICS countries. That is why, beyond doubt, taking Russia's development as priority, I think it is important to communicate and co-ordinate the work on the international arena as a whole in order to create a «united front» of young people. »
