Sergei Zelenev is Executive Director of the International Council on Social Welfare, a non-governmental organization devoted to promoting social welfare, social development and social justice worldwide.

Before assuming his position at the ICSW in 2012, Dr. Zelenev for almost three decades worked for the United Nations, both at Headquarters in New York and in the field, in Africa and in the Caribbean. He came to the UN job from academia, teaching economic theory and policy in Moscow, Russia.

His international career with the UN Secretariat involved a range of functions that he performed throughout the years, including research and policy analysis of various socio-economic issues; provision of substantive support to the intergovernmental policy dialogue of member states at the United Nations and facilitating international cooperation in the area of social development; strengthening the capacity of member states in social policy formulation and implementation.

During his UN career he assumed various managerial duties, including such positions as Director of the UN International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (UN-INSTRAW) and the Chief of the Social Integration Branch in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN/DESA). He participated in many international events, symposia and conferences, making key-note presentations on social issues of international significance.

He has written widely in the areas of social policy, economic development, ageing, youth and intergenerational relationships and directed numerous UN studies on key policy issues.

Mr. Zelenev is a Visiting Professor at the MGIMO University in Moscow teaching courses on Global Governance and Social Policy. He also serves as an advisor to the Club de Madrid on Shared Societies Project: Democratic Leadership for Dialogue, Diversity and Social Cohesion.

Kindness and Gratitude are the main laws of human society as important as Newton's gravity law. Abusing those laws lead to personal and international conflicts. The activity of the Academy aims for the principle of Kindness to be used for solving problems at personal and international level.

Gregory Pototsky created Symbol of kindness, «Dandelion», the International Academy of Kindness has installed monuments – Symbols of Kindness in the following countries: the Republic of Nagornyi Karabakh, Estonia, Latvia, Russia, Ukraine, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, China, Greece, the Philippines, Columbia, Ecuador, Pakistan, Hungary.
